In 1994 I was the tech lead for the software licensing group at Silicon Graphics. There was a group of 5 people that were handling all of the license requests. I of course felt that much of the work needed to be automated. I designed and wrote a tool to automatically process both e-mail and web requests for licenses.
The demand for licenses continued to increase dramatically, but Key-O-Matic did the work of many people and instant gave instant results. This saved the company lots of money while increasing customer satisfaction.
Over time, I project managed additional features being added.
At a time, when most innovative companies were still struggling with putting flat content on the web, we had a friendly and interactive system for automatically issuing licenses. We had this in place years before our competitor Sun or any other large company.
Key-O-Matic is still being used in production to this day.
These ads I produced that we ran on the internal web in SGI
